The Mission of the Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts at the College of Micronesia-FSM, was established in 1975 to enable students to transfer to four-year colleges, universities or other institutions. In doing so, it aims to produce students with critical thinking and analytical skills by providing exploration in a broad, cross-disciplinary educational foundation within multiple academic contexts. Moreover, its mission is to also equip students with skills that will enable them to inform themselves appropriately in order to contribute fully within their local communities and participate actively within an increasingly global setting.

Liberal Arts program is located within the division of Languages and Literature although the program does require students to take other courses such as science and social science courses which are not offered through the Languages and Literature division. Hence, our Liberal Arts students are exposed to an interdisciplinary selection of courses from instructors across the campus that will help prepare them to meet their future goals.

We Teach primarily introductory courses in Philosophy, Literature, Religion, Japanese, Chinese, Music, Business Communication, some General Education courses such as Advanced Reading, Expository Writing I , Expository Writing II, Speech Communications and , all ESL Courses in reading and writing.

Our General Goal is to expose our students to a selection of broad cross-disciplinary courses so that they can be equipped with critical thinking and analytical skills that they can use as they transfer to other universities and contribute to their local communities.

Our Purpose is to facilitate student success through the fulfillment of the College’s mission, to expand the horizons of our students and to prepare them to transfer successfully to other universities upon graduation.
